as has already been mentioned by others, if you're using Skype version 4, you need to set Skype's appearance to Classic Windows. Here's how to do that if you can't see the menus:

If your Skype is set to English, press alt-T for tools and then select Options. You should land in the general section, just tab a few times to get to the relevant setting and set it to Classic Windows rather than Skype.

Unfortunately, we tried installing it here yesterday and for some reason it brought Skype up in Hebrew instead of English. This meant that alt-T did not do the trick, and it was quite a fiddle to get to the language option and change it.

Regardless of which version of Skype you are using, you'll want to activate the two options under the Accessibility submenu.

Please note that Skype 4 is not yet recommended for screen reader use by Skype themselves, and a link to Skype 3.8 is still being provided on their site.
