[nvda] Re: SV: Re: Braille displays

Hello,
Just a little note to add: BRLTTY is already ported to windows, they have even added service mode recently. So now it's "our turn". But it has been said several times virtual buffers have higher priority.

MeddelandeNow, here is a page that is what has been discussed about adding
braille support to NVDA. The question is, can it be made to work in windows
too? When will it be added to NVDA? The answer is when it is ported over to
work with windows too, then it will be looked at to see what can be done to
work in NVDA. Here is the page.

For those of you that are either impatient, wondering what is being worked on
currently with NVDA, wondering whether braille is going to be in the next
version of NVDA. Perhaps the list you should join to observe day to day
progress is the developers list. When a revision to the code is put into the
trunk, they will most times give a little write up of what the code does, or
what it fixes. It will also give those users that are in the dark but curious
an idea of what is being worked on, and what the focus of the developers is day
by day. I also know that numerous times on this list and also the developers
list Mick, the main developer guy, has said, numerous times mind you, that the
main focus of the developers right now is going to be on the virtual buffer
code for NVDA. Does that mean that braille support is going to be in the next
release? I suppose the best answer to that question could be found at the
developers email list. Josh, while enthusiastic, most like
ly already knows the answer to his own question, since he has posted the
question numerous times before and gotten the same answer, numerous times
before. Again, for those that are looking for, does NVDA work with this or
that, can it work with or that? The answer is, try it. Try it, and see if
NVDA works with the software you are asking about. If it doesn't, then go
through your list of email from the NVDA developers list and then maybe you
will get an idea of when it might begin to work. Again, what is being worked
on at the moment, and also until it is done, is the virtual buffers for the
Firefox browser. This does not automatically mean that it will work for,
Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, those will most likely still need to be
worked on. So, any grumbling about IE doesnt work right, Opera needs to be
supported to only means that you were not paying attention and not remaining
patient. It means that you were once again depending on the system to do it
for you
and then grumbling because it wasn't exactly as you thought it should be. Will braille support be in the next release, the answer is no. How do I know this and I am not even a developer? I joined the NVDA developers list so I can know what the progress of NVDA is day by day. Now if your purpose on the NVDA list is to just sit and grumble and complain that NVDA doesn't work and it is not as good as Jaws, Window Eyes, Hal, or system access? You may just find that there are a very passionate group of NVDA users that would disagree with you til the end of time. 99 percent of NVDA users already know it is not to the same stature of Jaws, Window Eyes hal or system access, and so do the developers. In fact NVDA will always have one advantage over all of the other screen readers. It is free of charge. That means that if NVDA does not do exactly what you need it to do, you didn't have to go out and spend 1,095 dollars on Jaws to find out that screen reader doesn't work with it either. Of course I am referring to the fact that if the 1,095 dollar version of Jaws you just bought doesnt work with Windows XP professional or Media center edition, you have to buy their professional version for 200 dollars more. NVDA on the other hand will work the same whether you have XP home, Pro, or media center edition. This fact also applies for Window Eyes and Hal too. If you are one of those people that have been sent to the list to grumble about NVDA's development in the hopes of discouraging people? Stop it, because you are only going to succeed in pissing alot of people off and nothing more because NVDA is here to stay.

Guys I really hate to sound angry and arrogant in the same time but if you
don't like what NVDA team development does, go away from this list and leave
this project to fans and people who like to spend their time in NVDA
development and its growing potential.
Josh, you are kind of person who likes to spam the list with kind of one sentence answers or questions, , which are kind of annoying, specially when there is nothing much to say on your questions or answers because probably they are already answered but you are to lazy to read the list archives. I can see that you are smart enough to use your brain in more intuitive way, so before posting such none sense crap, read please all the answers related to the subject on the wiki page or on the list archive.
And btw, I know that you made one or more financial donations to NVDA
developers which is really kind of you, but keep in mind that this doesn't give
you the right to bug the developers 24/7 with suggestions which can not be
fullfield right away just because there are plans which have to be done and
which are currently more important for NVDA.
At the end, I'd like to mention again to all of you, think about how many
people right now actively work on NvDA development? Maybe 20 people are
actively involved from all over the planet, yes from all over the planet.
Practically that means that those people never met in person except main
developers and members of NV Access foundation, that means all the ideas have
to be discussed thru internet which takes time, but what's the most important,
all of the ideas has to be considered and implemented by main NVDA developer
Michael Curran. But if we look from the other prospective, NVDA in some thinks
like portability, flexibility, even stability, better response time and
sluggishness is far ahead from other screen readers, and all of the progress
happened during this year. NVDA has its own community which is alive, it
exists, its right here, most of the people have enough heart to help other
users who are not so familiar with very simple logic of NVDA usage.
Please people, show more respect to all of us who work in NVDA development,
translation team, people who are working on core development, users guides and
everything else what's needed for NVDA to be what it is today.

No you are notgoing to be able to use braille in the next NVDA release
, since braille is not implemented in NVDA yet.
