[nvda] Re: Question about Firefox

The beeps are for debugging, to see how long each update of the virtualBuffer is taking.

I will disable them now. I don't really use them any more.

Firefox 2 or 3 don't matter, the case is same in both. As far as I can
understand, NVDA gives beeps wherever the text being typed is not
visible to itself. Even in thunderbird You get only beeps while
composing the main message window. In all these situations the edit
boxes cannot be reviewed, Whereas it can be viewed in the IE.

the other thing I can think of is, are you using Firefox 2 or Firefox 3. If
it is 3 I am not sure if there has been any work done to NVDA concerning
Firefox 3 as of yet. And as far as the beeping while typing in forms in
Firefox? Yeah I am experiencing that one too. It does not do that while in
Internet Explorer, strange. I have also noticed a slight virtual buffer
load time improvement when turning off the beeps on progress bar updates.
It does not fix the beeping in forms though. Also I am noticing that it
does not announce what is being highlighted when pass through mode is turned on. For example pressing shift left or right arrow, control shift arrows, and control A. it does not speak what is being highlighted. I have however noticed strange behavior when copying and pasting a newer development build to replace an earlier version. But after deleting the files of the earlier
version first then extracting the newer version it clears up the strange
behaviors for me.

Just checked and link announcement is turned on.
In fact, virtual buffer settings are at default values.
I run v602.

I am using the 599 developers build of NVDA and don't seem to be having the
issue of NVDA not reporting visited links. It works fine for me. It is
possible that link announcement is turned off in the virtual buffer settings
for you but not exactly sure if this is the case.

Subject: [nvda] Question about Firefox

        Hi all,

2 Questions:

1. Is there a way to suppress the beeps that can be heard when filling a
form field ?

2. A user told me that, under firefox, nvda announces visited links.
I tried to check it bht here, it does not. Is this user dreaming or is there
something to do in firefox configuration or nvda configuration ?
