[nvda] Re: Problem with reading articles on web sites

It makes much more sense to learn to use things like the find command and the move by headings command and the skip blocks of links commands and becoming skilled at workind directly with the web page in these ways before using something that takes you completely out of the page with an entirely different structure. Things like links lists and elements lists should not be used until the person learning to use the Internet is thoroughly knowledgeabe and skilled at working with the page in direct ways.

Thanks guys. Your suggestions have been met with varying degrees of success and disappointment, depending on the type of website I am on. It seems that Wickapedia is particularly problematic due to the way their frames and tables are set up. When using some of the mouse and keystroke instructions I sometimes get the underlying HTML jargon read to me instead of the text of the article. However, for the most part, NVDA does a good job reading text articles with the mouse pointer alone, as long as there isn't a lot of embedded stuff in and around the article. Meanwhile, it serves as an added incentive for me to learn keystroke navigation and wean myself off of the mouse. I often turn off my monitor when practicing keyboard navigation to avoid the temptation to grab the mouse to perform fuctions I am still able to discern with my remaining vision. Its really quite satisfying to realize that I can get along quite well without my nose pressed up against the screen and also to recall the early days of computing (pre-MAC and pre-Windows) when nwe didn't have mice. - but that's another story. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Try doing a left-click on the paragraph you wish to start from, or pres NVDA+num-pad-slash to root the mouse to the object, then press left mouse button, num-pad-slash by itself.

I don't know why its programmed this way. It is particularly annoying when trying read articles on websites like Wickapedia which often contain many links in each line of text to other Wickapedia articles. I just copy the entire article to the clipboard and read it from there as I amstill trying 
to master keyboard navigation.

He might be using a mouse.  If you roll the mouse to an article un a
website it reads up to the point of the first link it encounters then 
stops.  Not a problem for keyboard users, but might be annoying for
partially-sighted mouse users. An *ignore linkks* option on the mouse settings menu would be a nice low priority ticket item in the future.

Hello group, I am having a problem reading articles on web sites 
using nvda. The problomatic articles are those which contains links
anywhere in a paragraph. Nvda will start reading the article but will stop reading it when the word or couple of words to be read are links. In order to continue reading past the link enabled word, I have to move to the line below where the link is to continue reading the article. Once this is done, nvda will resume reading the article from the word after the word that has the link on it. I am not sure if this is a bug or this is the intended behavior of nvda. Sorry I am not very good with explaining things very clearly. Anyone notice this? I was using nvda v0.6 but just updated 
to the beta 20091 release. Thanks.
