Also as I stated there are still a few issues with the development of open
office itself. For example, the first time you start open office, it opens
to a configuration screen and they have not yet added any keyboard
accessible controls to it and that should be changed by the open office
developers. Even for a screen reader like Jaws it requires you to change to
the Jaws cursor in order to access the buttons on the form and could be very
simply fixed by adding tab stops into the code of open office.

Hello,
I think Petr tryed to point out that specific open office api called uno
does exist. NVDA developers are aware of this but unfortunatelly it has
serious issue in relation to NVDA because it requires own build of python
which is not up to date.
I think java access bridge is good feature even for other java
applications and is the easiest way to at least start doing something in
terms of OOO support. If this fails I am sure users as well as NVDA
developers will be trying to call for help to solve that uno issue or
after a while sun will fix it without any complayins them-selves.
Let me add a bit of experience: A commercial czech screen reader called
winmonitor has implemented OOO support using java access bridge. I haven't
tryed it my-self but there is quite notable number of people seem to be
satisfied with that.

Yes and as the page says, its accessibility is obtained through the Java
API and on it's current build you have to download the Java Access Bridge
for it to work even a little bit with even screen readers like Jaws.
That is not to say that won't improve in the near future but there is
still a bit of work to be done on the development side of open office.

Hello,
according to web pages of OpenOffice.org, I think they've already put
much
effort into implementing accessibility features so that assistive
technologies such as screen readers can benefit from it and make
OpenOffice
applications accessible. I suppose that it is now the developers turn to
implement such features. The OpenOffice accessibility API claims not to
be
dependent upon any JAVA access bridge, just go and read:
