I'm not sure about the actual menu being there. I definitely see
something when I press the NVDA+N command. NVDA reports NVDA menu and then
will not say anything else, and will not navigate the menu when I try to do
it. WhenI press NVDA+TAB NVDA reports lost focus. The NVDA menu will refuse
to work properly until my computer is restarted. I'm not sure if it's just a
focus issue or whether the entire menu, text and all is blanked out with
just a white window I can't see enough for that. I can only tell if
something is there. I checked my log but there were no errors.

So you are saying the menu is there, but the focus is not on it then. I've
noticed this kind of thing on very expensive screenreaders on some
controls as well.
I'll try it when it happens again. There are a lot of dogy programs around
that do strange things like pop things up for a split second but muck up
the focus by not putting things quite back right.
I often notice if the machine is idle and all of a sudden you will hear,
START or toolbar or some other related or unrelated word and when you come
back, all focus is gone again into limbo land. Its really annoying when
say, reading something like a web page and it screws up where you got to.
Grr.
Windows.

Well, it's a focus issue. Try going to the desktop with Windows+M, and
press
insert+n again. See what happens then. I've had that issue as well.

Its flaky. I noticed it on the install version the first time it ran, but
not after that. I think it might be something to do with the installer, I
thought to myself...
As you say, if it happens on the portable, then my thought is doggy dodo
.

Yes, it happens on both versions. Wich is odd, if you think about it,
since the portable version isn't supposed to be installed.

I have noticed this menu problem as well, and thought it was me. Is this
on both versions?

Subject: [nvda] NvDA Portable
Hello list members. I was just wondering whether it is possible to
insert
a bit of code into the portable version of NVDA that will terminate it
if
the removable device is removed with NVDA running. This is minor but I
keep forgetting to terminate NVDA before I remove muy flash drive and
NVDA goes crazy with error sounds. This need only apply to the portable
version, the installer version doesn't need to be changed. Also
sometimes
after installing a new version of NVDA right after the installer is
closed and NVDA starts I cannot access the NVDA menu. When I press
NVDA+N
NVDA says "NVDA menu" but there are no options to choose from. A
restart
fixes this, but I'm curious why this occurs. This is not a complaint,
just curious.
Thanks
Kendell
