Hi Everyone,
The Australian Government has set up, for the first time, an award to
celebrate people with disabilities who have made a significant contribution
to the community.
I have nominated Mick for his efforts on creating NVDA and starting up NV
Access to ensure the ongoing work on NVDA and other similar projects in the
future.
Apart from the filled in nomination form, reference letters are also
required as part of the process. I have talked to the organisers and there
is no limit on the number of reference letters that we may submit. A friend
has also checked with the organisers and reference letters can be submitted
after the nomination closing date (which has already passed).
So, I am asking anyone who is interested in supporting this nomination to
write a letter of support. There is no set guideline for the actual letter
but it will need to contain:
Your name, postal address and method of contact (like email or phone). This
is in case, they want to contact you to confirm the contents of your letter.
In terms of the contents of the letter, you can write what you like. Just
make sure that the subject stays around NVDA, Mick's character/work ethic
etc or NV Access. You can also talk about how NVDA has effected you in any
area of your life etc.
These don't need to be too long, about a page or so. You can write it in
word, RTF or text and I will be printing them out to send to the organisers.
I will need these letters of reference by Monday 20th August by the latest
and will send an email reminder a week or so before then.
If Mick becomes one of the runners up or one of the winners of the award,
this will help us to get a lot of national recognition for NVDA. The main
reason that we are nominating Mick is that because it may really help us in
gaining government funding in the near future.
If you have more questions about this, please email me off list as this is
kind of off topic.
Thanks,
Amy
