Hi Erin,
Yes, I had to ask others on the forum how to do this, as it is not a file that
NVDA have up on thir site just yet; but it may hopefully be something they look
into in the future?
Once you have NVDA set up on your portable drive, you will need to save a file
to that drive called autorun.inf I will put the text below that you will need.
Just copy and paste it into notepad and save the file as autorun.inf
[autorun]
open=nvda\nvda.exe
Action=Start NVDA
icon=nvda\nvda.exe
shell\NVDA="Start NVDA"
shell\NVDA\command=nvda\nvda.exe
Then, put the file you have just saved on your portable drive (in the main root
directory). Eg. if it is called your G:\ then save the file to G:\ . Do not put
it into any folders as it will not work from there.
After you have saved your file to the portable drive, remove it from the usb
hole and plug it back in. This time, it should say Removable disk G: (or
whatever drive letter yours is called) This disk contains more than one type of
content. What do you want Windows to do? (Start NVDA using the program provided
on the device) should appear at the top of the list of options. Press enter and
NVDA should begin.
If the autorun screen does not appear, it many have to be enabled.
Let us know how you get on.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA portable
Hi,
I would appreciate it if someone could please e-mail me privately with
instructions on how to run NVDA from a portable drive. I know this topic has
been discussed on this list recently, but unfortunately, I wasn't paying that
much attention. I have downloaded the zip file and opened it to a directory on
my U3 drive. (launch pad removed) However, I'm not sure if there is a way to
start NVDA with a hot key. It's sometimes a little difficult to make sure you
have the right directory and file selected to run when you don't have a
screen-reader guiding you.
Thanks for any help.
Erin
