I'm sticking to windows for now because I don't want to take the chance of
messing up this machine. besides, I have things that only run on windows
that I just couldn't bare to part with such as my games and text to speech
engines like scansoft voices and things.

Well that needs to be a choice you make because of your experience with
it,
not because of what I say. Some love Linux and will not use anything
else.
I only gave my opinion and it really means nothing to anyone probably but
myself. Try it out and decide for yourself, maybe you'll like it a lot
more
than I did.

I'm sure many will disagree with my opinion but yes Linux is outdated and
has no hopes of taking over the market any time. It's a hobbyist OS and
that's all that's ever going to be. Attempts were made to bring Linux
into
everyones homes about 8 to 10 years ago with Lindows and projects like
Wine
to make Linux more like the evil Windows. It's never happened except for
one exception and that is Apple's OS 10 that uses basically Linux under
it's shell.
Even where linux shines on the server market is being eroded away slowly
but
surely by Microsoft servers.

A G U I was slapped onto Linux to make it compete with the all evil
Windows
and it's clunky at best even to sighted users. I tried to join the
Linux

antiquated OS right of the 70's and 80's things like accessibility and G

I
weren't even ever thought about back when I started messing with Linux

Well rick lets tell the truth for josh so he can wake up and get a clue.
G
u I access under linux is no where near what it is under windows. It is
unstable getting it to work is a pain in the *** and now there is only
one
choice for it yet again because the lsr prodject dyed from I b m. it is
doing what everyone here seems to think is a good idea trying to get
everyone to use these access api that then do the work for the screen
reader
buy telling it what is going on verses the screen reader going out and
getting the information for it self. There is your open sorce
accessability. Oh lets not talk about skype lets not talk about audio
editing lets not even talk about the fact the main usable linux screen
reader for the jcl speakup will not even compile in the latest kernels.
Oh
we will not even talk about the problems the new computer user can
exspect
to face with newer higher end hardware. For example my m-audio fast
track
pro sound card will not work at all under linux. While I like the idea
of
open sorce it is not having such a grate track rechord for
accessability.
N v d a is a nice pordject but josh it can only go so far as long as it
keeps on with the idea that programs need to provide it information
threw
api models. No it needs a video driver to really be effective now if
you
really want to help stop talking and running your ever flapping mouth
and
start trying to write grants. While your at it compile means and ways
for
the rest of us. Now why don't I do the same thing? Well the answer is
simple I am not the one doing the bitching.

Open source software is no better or no worse than commercial software
in
regards to accessibility. Just because something is open source doesn't
mean you or someone else can make it accessible. Take NVDA as an
example.
It's not able to do certain things as well at this time as the
commercial
products are able to do. So even Mick and the team can't just wave
their
magic wands and make something happen. It's not as easy as you seem to
think it is Josh to make the world become accessible to you. I see your
posts all the time and you seem to thing just because something runs on
Linux or is open source you can contact someone and just have them
magically
make the thing accessible. You need to realize at some point no matter
how
bad you want this to happen it's not going to, at least not as easily as
you
seem to think at least.
