[nvda] Re: NVDA Virus Information

yeah. I'm not gunna download and use it either until the bad virus is gone gone gone.

I know it wasn't mick's fault. But putting a virus into py2exe is not nice.

I'll be waiting till Mick tells us it's virus free before I use it anymore.
Hopefully he'll get it fixed right away.

Hmmm I wander if by installing it our systems are at risk then.
Everything works for now but I have only just recovered from a virus attack. And even after a reformat I lost some files from backups, and managed to get
after affects.

Hello all,

Firstly, I apologise for what has happened with Viruses being detected in
NVDA over the last day or so with AVG (and possibley others).

Thank you to Michel and others who have tracked it down to py2exe.

It so happens that Py2exe (the tool we use to compile NVDA in to a program,
from Python source files) has a virus in its latest version.

Version 0.6.6 of Py2exe has the virus, where as 0.6.5, which was used in
NVDA r425 and earlier, does not.

I don't know if this is a false positive or not, however the fact remains
that virus checkers are throwing up this alert and this is not good.

NVDA can be recompiled easily enough with the older Py2exe tool, however I
don't personally build the NVDA releases and snapshots, this is a task that
Jamie performs.

I will let Jamie know that a new NVDA 0.5 needs to be built, and we might
also remove the old snapshots and rebuild a latest one.

This may take some time so please bear with us.

Thanks for your understanding
Mick
