[nvda] Re: NVDA, Now The Screen Reader Of Choice?

Why would a screenrader need to use the skype extra's manager? the business version of skype does not come with such gimmicks and works well too.

If you are talking about permitting access to the skype api for the WE scripts, you can do that thru the skype options under "advanced" "manage other programs' access to skype".

I must admit I have not used nvda extnesively with skype and hardly at all in the options dialog. I do not know how well it supports the dialog that deals with add-ons' access to the skype api. Even jaws has some problems in that dialog.

I honestly must say,

I have been using NVDA quite extensively now.
What does bother me with Window-eyes currently is indeed the time they are taking for 7.5 to come out. Normally, it don't take this long for a screen reader to come out with something like a new browse mode update, wouldn't you think?
Hopefully by the end of this year or earlier, a beta will come out.
The scripting, although powerful, definitely slows down its stibility.
Although, considering that NVDA works with the skype interface in 3.8 extremely well, and not so bad in 4.1, at least it doesn't need that skype extra's manager. Wonder what GW micro will do once the extra's manager won't be supported anymore.
If its still there in future skype releases, i'll be shocked.

Trenton,

I am actually quite disappointed with window eyes because of its response time and because of browse mode. On my machine, there is a lag. Also, browse mode is terrible!! I've been playing more with JAWS, and it crashes far less and is much easier to use than window eyes. NVDA's still top of the line though, with the exception of the latest nightly build of seamonkey. there, JAWS works great!!

Thanks

The last I shall say about the dear old shark, is that the day that
freedom decides to make upgrades actually mean something, is the day
I may play with a demo . All these features come down to a price of
around $160, and that for every upgrade is ridiculous in itself.
Must I say the upgrades are too modern?
That's the biggest thing, this research feature.
Jaws will always still be the largest screen reader on a person's
harddrive, and its quite sad its over 100 MB, not including the
self-talking installer, which is not technically needed.
Oh, and as for documentation and stuff, it of course is my own
oppinion, nothing more.
But the fact always willl remain, Jaws will never, be, stable. Just
wait or the next time it crashes.
As for the hotkeys, who's gonna mess with one of those files with
hot keys? Too risky in my oppinion.
Ok, I'm done.
The only thing great about Freedom if anything, is their podcasts. A
bit long, but they got good intro music.

I agree.
What FS charges for it's screen reader is ridiculous.
$200 just for some bug fixes and a new feature called Research IT...

Never listened to their podcasts though, so I can't comment on the intro
music :)

Oh, anything Jaws can do, NVDA and Window-Eyes can do it quite easily.
Case closed for the T Man here, back to the Window-Eyes and NVDA
side of life.

I have to disagree, jaws is far better than NVDA when it comes to Braille
support.
That's the only reason I'm still stuck with JFW.

I can't comment on Window-Eyes, since I have never tried it.
