JavaScript isn't a "web extension"; it's a programming language hosted
in the browser and used by webpages.
Java is a programming language and isn't directly offered by the
browser. However, there are Java browser plugins with a wide install
base that allow developers to embed little Java applications in
webpages. The browser hands over execution of these "applets" to the
Java plugin. Examples of applet uses include games, WYSIWYG editors,
bulk file uploaders, media players, and chat programs.
