I do understand where you are coming from about Firefox. Its another one of those problems owhere real world use and the resources and such do not marry up everywhere.
I'm no fan of Microsoft, but one of the things I've found with computers in 'normal' whatever that is, households is that the sighted do not want things installed, so adding Firefox is often just not an option. It may well be that my experience is unique to where I am in the UK and local conditions etc, but it is very much the case that showing that there is no change for the sighted, not even adding a user, is a great selling point when letting 'the blind' loose on the machine.
I know its a short sighted attitude by the family, I know its discriminatory, but that is the way life is.
Anyway, enough of this, I hope you will be able to at least fix some of the more obvious IE problems as soon as possible.
With regard to beeps, hmm, I have to pass on the how to's, and your system works much faster than some readers whose beeps appear to be in wav files, the playing of which slugs everything.
I like, for instance, the Dolphin noise on caps better than the pitch change, but there is no doubt that it slows things down.

Perhaps. However, being a free and open source product ourselves, we feel a certain inclination towards supporting other open source software. We also receive much greater support from open source software developers and it is thus much easier for us to implement support in NVDA. Finally, organisations such as the Mozilla Foundation have provided us with several grants in order to further NVDA's development. Aside from our obligations under these grants, we feel a certain obligation to support software from such organisations first and foremost.
Re the beeps. I preferred the old ones myself. The new ones sound shrill and almost square wave like to me. However these are personal prefs of course.
Indeed. Unfortunately, the old ones sounded a bit soft and indistinguishable to some. Personally, I would prefer something between the new and the old ones, but the maths for generating these tones is a bit tricky for some of us. :)
