[nvda] Getting started on writing aaplication specific scripts?

Hi,
is there any reasonable starting point to get fammiliar with writing python scripts to better support specific applications?
My goal:
I would like to improve the OpenOffice Calc functionality (Access Bridge application) such that NVDA will read the contents of a cell first (if any), then the coordinates and then an indicator if the cell has a formular. All information is generally available but currently there is a lot of unnecessary / non-helpful output (like editable cell) which is probably due to generic handling of all Java Tables.
TIA, Roland
