Oh, I'll have to check on this. I'm just trying to think if what you say is
true. I realised it did this if reading some program listings where
keywords of three letters were in caps, but it not always in that sort of
environment that it occurs.

in a sentence where other words are in lower-case. That usually means
that it's a TLA (three letter acronym).
Of course, it may have been capitalized for emphasis, in which case
spelling as letters is not appropriate.
