Not sure about how it behaves over USB, but it does support actual serial

You can definitely get it working using the serial port using BRLTTY
under Vista with no problems. However, if you want to use USB and the
USB driver doesn't emulate a serial port, you'll have to install the
libusb driver, which will overwrite the manufacturer provided driver.
In addition, I have a bunch of not-so-public
specs on how to write to the display and read the various buttons from it.
This might be useful for serial communication, but for USB, we'd need to
know how to interact with the USB driver they provide. Also, if they're
not-so-public specs, we may run into legal issues using them.
So, here are some rough instructions for using BRLTTY with NVDA:
1. Ensure that NVDA is installed and working with speech.
2. Download the latest BRLTTY installer. The URL is provided in the
manual. You want the .exe file with the highest version number.
3. Run the BRLTTY installer.
4. If asked to install the libusb-win32 *filter*, answer no.
5. If you want to use USB, if asked to install the libusb-win32
*driver*, answer yes. Note that this will overwrite the manufacturer
provided driver, so this is not a good idea if you use your display with
other screen readers on that system.
6. When the BRLTTY Configurator appears, if you want to use USB, you can
set the display to auto and port to USB. If you want to use serial, set
the display to ALVA and port to the serial port to use.
7. Set NVDA to use BRLTTY in the Braille settings dialog.
