[nvda] Re: Autorun.inf

I just did some experimentation and the exit command doesn't work on batch files if you open a DOS prompt. I also tried using the cmd extension and exit doesn't work when that is done either.

Barring more information, it looks as though you'll have to exit manually. You might as well keep the batch file just as it is and not worry about opening a DOS prompt. The results appear the same as far as closing the prompt is concerned.

I learned my computing with dos, but now in winXP, (jumped from ms-dos6 to XP) (about 7 years with out a computer) I do sometimes use cmd line stuff, but how does one close the dos console window in XP?

I have taken the following steps.

1. copied the mute.exe file into the NVDA portable folder.
2. created an nvda.bat file in the NVDA folder with the following lines.

Mute.exe off
NVDA.exe
Exit

It appears to work fine at starting NVDA with a guarantee of sound . There is one problem though . The dos console window is not closing even though I
have put exit at the end of the bat file. I have gone back to check and
there is a carriage return after exit so the command should work?
Does anybody know what I am doing wrong?

I downloaded it from the Jaws User programs page which you can find on

Does anybody know if it is possible to run 2 programs in an autorun.inf
file?
What I have in mind is running a utility called mute.exe before NVDA runs
off a pen drive .
If you run the freeware utility mute with a command parameter set to off
you
can ensure that sound is unmuted no matter what state a PC has been left
in.
The actual command line needed is the location of mute.exe followed by
mute.exe off

If this could be added to the autorun.inf which starts NVDA from a pen
drive
or a CD this could be a powerful support to access computers where the
sound
has unhelpfully been muted by a previous sighted user. .
As this is a freeware utility could it possibly even be bundled with NVDA
?

David Griffith.
