My point is that if the NVDA developers identify the problem, they can then determine how likely it is to affect just a small number of applications or a significant number.
The problem is that these applications don't expose information about some of these controls through MSAA or some other accessibility API. In these cases, we can try to access the information through some other API (perhaps some standard Windows API for that type of control or an API specific to a custom control). For example, as Peter noted, some of these controls might expose their information as window text or the like. Where none of these work, display information must be used to read the text. NVDA does not have a way of accessing display info, so that is currently a no go.
