It certainly sounds like a dummy-spit. The ALP are very clever with
their preference deals. They know how to make the electoral
system work for them. They were not going to waste preferences
when the results were expected to be tight. You would not
think that Fielding would be a natural ALP ally. The ALP
would not be where they are without Greenie preferences.

Hi Rob,

I think that Fielding (Family First) lost his Victorian senate seat
when all the Greenies were elected. Good riddance. Story here:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/08/21/2989795.htm

As I said before, I'm not a fan of single issue-parties, and groups
like Family First, and the Greens, are too narrow focussed.
The main parties, for all their faults, at least have a wide
representation of views. Interesting times ahead. Labor
should have first go at stitching together an agreement
as they are the party in government. Depends, I suppose,
on who gets the last few seats in doubt.

The kiwi system sounds like the old English system that
was used hundreds of years ago. it does have some
attractions. Our system is far too open to distortion. I cannot
believe that a few random MP's with tiny representation
are able to have power out of all proportion to their
electoral support. The Greens are just the latest in a long line
of parties - Democrats, DLP etc. We are certainly grossly
over-governed for our population. The chances of that being
changed in the future are pretty slim.

The problem with Jake's school just shows how wasteful
the Labor programs were. Projects that should have cost
less than half were pushed ahead and other schools
are falling apart.

Gee I wish we could flap a couple of cheque books around
and entice s few of those maori players over. The kiwi B side
would probably beat us at present. Mate, enjoy the victories
while they last.

Cheers, Paul.

What about that idiot Fielding, I sure hope he got the boot.

Australia has a weird government system, the Westminster system.
Different from New Zealand which doesn’t have a state level of
governance it goes straight to Counties, Boroughs and districts
governed by councils.

Not sure where we are going to end up. I think Gillard has a better
plan for the future. Just feel the old ranting’s from Abbott about
debt and deficit is a bit over cooked, Labor may have had a few
issues but I’m a little bit concerned about Abbott cuts to everything.
While there is a boom in the mineral sector let get a bit of infrastructure
up and going. My son Jake sits in a classroom that needs a half dozen
buckets sitting on the floor when it rains

Nah it isn’t too loped sided we that is the AB’s are just really good : )
The fight to be dominant especially against SA our most hated opponent
runs in our blood… Anyways they whip us 3 x last year so it pay back
time. Just hope we are cooking when WC comes around next year.

Robbie Deans would probably like to be performing better. But at the
end of the day I think he has been very good for the Wallabies. Not
afraid to introduce new blood. And he has some great talent coming
through… but then its the same with the AB’s with Ranger, Dagg, Reed,
Nonu, Weepu, Kaino and the Franks brothers. And some of the medium
experienced players like Muliana, Jane, Mealamu, Smith, McCraw,
Rokocoko, Cowan, Carter with Thorn coming back from a spell in the
NRL in Australia is settling back in very well. A lot of these guys can
move around, we have two kickers (Weepu if Carters radar is off),
a couple of great Halfbacks. And forwards that can play like Backs
(Woodcock). The list goes on, and that is just the All Black “A” side we
also have an All Black “B” side along with the NZ Maori side. And if you
look at ITM cup there is a wealth of players to choose from, NZ Rugby
has a great future.

Cheers,CS

Rob

Hi Rob,

I think the Greens doubled their numbers
in the Senate from 5 to 10. They took the
seat of House of Reps. seat of Melbourne
from Labor.
The new senators (including the
10 green ones) won't take their place
in the Senate until July 1 next year.
The Senate has strange electoral rules,
and normally only half the senators
are up for election at the Federal elections.
A double dissolution has both the House
of Reps and the whole Senate up for
election, but that's an unusual occurrence.
The only good thing about Greens having
the balance of power is that their leader
Brown has some common sense. Some of
those ex-National independents are strange
critters though, so the horse trading to form
a government, either Labor or Coalition,
will be interesting.

A good result for the AB's but it means
the contest is too lop-sided. If anyone had a chance
to beat them, the Boks at home were the ones.
Cheers, Paul.

Well it looks like Parliament is hung, your worst fears Paul I think
there will be a bit of haggling through the week. Luckily for Gillard
most of the independents are ex National so the NBN which they
seem to like might work in her favour. I guess time will tell. I missed
the end, just got to tired waiting for the Rugby. Abbott seemed like
he was claiming victory by a small margin.

Anyways I woke about 3:30 with Tri Nation Rugby on my mind. So I
got up to watch the recording. And I can tell you seeing a couple
of the Spring Boks smiling and making jokes during the Haka I knew
they would lose. It was an exceptionally tough game and it looked
like the boks were going to win with the All Blacks keep pace and
receive a Tri Nation Cup winning bonus point. But the boks ran out
of steam in the final 10 minutes and the mighty All Blacks slammed
home a couple of tries. It was one of the toughest game of Rugby
I have seen in a long while, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wallabies
put in a similar effort back in Sydney 11th September. The two boks
v Wallabies matches in South Africa seem a little meaningless now.
They’re more likely want to redeem themselves against the cup winners.

So Paul, unfortunate on both fronts. But I am over joyed we have the
Tri Nation back for the 10th time.

Anyone know how many Green got up in the senate?

Cheers,CS bring on the new moon!!!!!!

Rob

Yes, very close election. I'm not very
keen on minor parties like the Greens
or anyone else having the balance of power.
It gives them an electoral clout that they don't
deserve from the ballot-box perspective.
Footy is more interesting, especially
the AB's verses Boks on home turf.
Should be a tough tussle. I'm sort of
hoping the Boks win, while at the same
time, deploring their sometimes dirty play.

Cheers, Paul.
