Hi All,
Ten of us were led on our Birdwalk yesterday by Frank Schaff and Jeffrey
Wright at Westmoreland State Park. The weather was beautiful and sunny but I
needed a jacket as when we started out at 9:00 AM it was in the 50's. When we
finished up at 11:45 AM it was a gorgeous 60 degrees.
We walked on several trails as you will see in the following report
provided by Jeff Wright. Rather than repeating some information, I added to
Jeffrey's report.
After a delightful walk down to the beach we were unable to look for
shark's teeth as it was high tide and the water was covering the sand. I want
to send out a big thank you to Ranger Kenneth Benson who came down to pick up a
few weary walkers at the beach. The walk back up the long hill was arduous.
Six of us were able to go to lunch at "The Art of Coffee" in Montross. A
good time was had by all.
Jeffrey's report follows with the bird list.
Shown below is the list of the 22 species (and oneTaxa) and their numbers -That's it for now.
seen or heard. - The count of the birds was reported to eBird.
NNAS has adapted reporting via eBird on the species and numbers of birds seen
during NNAS Bird Walks. Good stuff and this approach helps support key
citizen science projects.
NNAS bird walks are a way to support citizen science projects and also help
build historical data on birds on the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and
surrounding areas such as “The Bay.”
Weather was “brisk” today. Temperature ranged from 50-57 degrees. Clear
skies with 10 Mile “plus” visibility. Winds 12-17 MPH gusting to 24 MPH.
Whitecaps on the Potomac and we visited Fossil Beach at high tide.
