Hello, an item we can discuss at the next meeting could be a landscape scale
grant for towns that have hazardous fuels rx fire needs (see message and links
below). This year’s deadline is Jan 17th which would be tight unless the group
has some ideas already. Maybe we can work with the Co-op foresters, our own
agencies and Steve Sherman to put together a solid proposal for submission
2018…. What does the group think? thanks

Thanks, John - I recall that Brad had been in contact with you about the Rx
fire proposal to assist towns in NH. I helped him draft it and we submitted it
to the WO and are still waiting for them to decide if they are going to fund it
(and now there's the CR and all that...). Have you (and Brad) considered
putting in for a competitive grant to NA through the State of NH?
The call for proposals is open until Jan/ 17. See below...
The Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry (NA S&PF) Cohesive Fire
Strategy Competitive Request for Proposals is designed to support and carry out
the goals of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy across the
Midwestern and Northeastern States as well as meet the intent of the current
year budget direction.
Proposals will be accepted that clearly identify the reduction of wildfire risk
and/or improve wildfire response in coordination with their respective State's
Forest Action Plan and meet one or more of the nine Northeast Regional Action
Plan management options.
To simplify this process for FY 2017, NA S&PF has combined the State Fire
Assistance-funded competitive processes into one application. Proposals are due
close of business January 17, 2017.

Hello Larry and Erin, the NH Rx Fire Council would be interested in working
with you in the future. We had several conversations with Brad Simpkins
regarding ways we could collaborate. One possibility would be a funding source
that towns could apply for to do on the ground projects either rx fire or fuels
reduction. Currently there is limited money for this type of work. We also
promote research on rx burning and fire prone natural communities in our
region. Our next council meeting is Feb 16th at 0900 EST. If you would like
to attend or call in we can put you on the agenda.

Hi Larry,
I’m sorry to be a bit late in this response. We have 2 Rx Burn Councils in our
NAFSE region (PA and NH); more throughout your Cohesive Strategy NE region; and
I know of a few more in the process of forming.
I don’t have all the contacts, but John Neely is the current chair and contact
for the New Hampshire Prescribed Fire Council.
Pennsylvania also has a very strong and active
Council<http://paprescribedfire.org/>. (that’s a hyperlink to their page). I’m
not sure their current Chair since Mike Pruss has moved on (I believe), but you
can email the Chair at:
Chair@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:Chair@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> or connect with
Todd Breininger who is our current contact there.
I copied them on this message here so that they are aware of the discussion,
but will let you follow-up directly—as desired.
I hope this is helpful.

Subject: REPLY DUE: Friday, December 30 - Outreach for new NE RSC member
organizations
Hi All:
Per our last NE RSC call, here are some of the organizations we are seeking to
reach out to. Please let me know if you have a NE regional contact for one of
these organizations by Friday, December 30th.
For your convenience, I have attached the briefing paper that includes the
membership responsibilities.
I have listed those NE RSC members (in blue) who have already indicated that
they have such a contact. For those organizations where we are unable to
identify a key contact, we will ask Mike Zupko for his assistance. Once we have
the contacts identified, we will set up and begin our outreach effort early in
the new year. Please let me know if you have any questions.
