Dear Max

The matter is not that straightforward.

Dedicated jobs in the neural networks (NN) domain are rare, to be optimistic!
But then again NN are only a SINGLE method, and most research and practical
work requires you to master various competing techniques, methods,
methodologies and technologies. You would also learn about microwaves, mathlab,
programming, experiment design and evaluation etc. Therefore the SKILLS you
will collect far outweight the knowledge of a single method.

In addition, a particular PhD topic in any domain does not limit you to work in
the domain specifically. Quite the contrary is often observed: a PhD is an
extended education that enables you to independently research / work on a long
and complex project - alone or within a team structure. The domain itself
doesn't matter as much. Therefore I wouldn't perceive it that the decision for
any particular PhD domain would limit you in either staying in research or
within a particulat research domain as specific as NN. On the other side, if
you feel interested in a particular domain try to find something closer to what
can interest you for the next 3-4 years!

You should ask yourself whether you want to further invest into you education -
and possibly receive a higher salary later in life and little now - or want to
start earning straight away. The way back from work life to a PhD is often
harder than you may think ... so I would consider it a decision for or against
an extended academic education.

Kind regards,
Sven

Please, help me !

I have a good chance to get a post-doc in U.S. university.

The main topic of the job are neural networks.
Exactly, the application of neural networks (in MATLAB) to reconstruction
of geometry of objects exposed to electromagnetic field (microwaves).

The problems is that I can't understand where I could find a job
after the end of this contract.
Where to seek the job that requires knowledge of neural networks?

One variant is university (postdoc positions and then, may be, a permanent
position)
But there are many problems with obtaining a permanent position in
university. After all, personally I don't like this variant.

I tried to seek for "neural network" jobs in job sites but
I found only a few jobs.

Could you help me, please, If it is possible to find a job
in neural networks, and which additional skills/knowledge/experience
I will need?

I have an alternative: to continue my career as a software developer
(Microsoft.NET, C#, etc).
Now I am in Russia.

Best regards,
Max
