What's new on the University of Chicago Press website for September, 2003:
HOW HOBOES CHANGED AMERICA
From the end of the Civil War to the beginning of WW2, an army of tramps
roamed the land. Whether you call them hoboes, tramps, or bums, they had a
profound influence on decades of social policy. We have an interview with
author Todd Depastino and an excerpt about the 1908 hobo takeover of the
IWW from his book _Citizen Hobo: How a Century of Homelessness Shaped
America_. Very interesting history.

MACHIAVELLI GOES TO WAR
"A battle that you win cancels any other bad action of yours" Might sound
like George Bush's presidential strategy, but it was articulated about five
hundred years ago by Machiavellia in his _Art of War_ , the book that
created modern military strategy. We have just published a new translation
by Christopher Lynch--the first completely new translation in more than 200
years. On the website we have a selection of aphorisms drawn from the book:

CHICAGO MANUAL OF STYLE, 15TH EDITION
If you haven't visited the _Chicago Manual of Style_ website yet, you
should. New style questions and answers are posted every month. There's
also a very useful search tool for the 15th edition.
