Peter's Digital Reference Shelf - May 2004

The May edition of Peter's Digital Ready Reference Shelf has been posted
on the Gale Group website. This column is available free of charge to all

Peter Jacso is a member of the Internet Librarian Hall of Fame
(http://www.rlc.dcccd.edu/lrc/hofprevious.htm). His in-depth reviews are
illustrated with dozens of screenshots and provide a multi-linked virtual
walk-through of the databases he evaluates.  Jacso was the 1998 recipient
of the Louis Shores-Oryx Press Award of the Reference and User Services
Association for his discerning database reviews.

This resource provides rich details about followers of more than 4,200
religious denominations and faith groups with impressive sourcing of
nearly 45,000 cited references; many include informative excerpts from the
source document. Some financial support for more appropriate software
could make this valuable compendium of religious demographics an
easy-to-use, unique and outstanding digital ready- reference tool.

In spite of the appealing design and very reasonable subscription price,
KeepMedia may not be able to compete with the far larger article archives
that your library may offer for free or that XanEdu offers at a comparable
price that includes page-image formats for many of the articles.
