Hey folks! Do you lie awake nights enjoying techniphilic fantasies about
high wattage broadcasting? We sure do here at Prometheus. That's why we're
so happy to announce that Jeff Windsor, an engineer working at SUNY
Oswego, got the University to donate two 'non-functional' giant
transmitters to Prometheus.
The transmitters were built in the early seventies, and they look like
something out of an episode of The Bionic Woman. They're orders of
magnitude bigger than the ones we usually work with in the Low Power FM
world. One of the transmitters will broadcast at 1000 watts, the other at
10,000! We're holding a weekend workshop to repair both transmitters, and
we'll then send them to Central or South America for use by community
broadcasters.
We invite you to join us in West Philadelphia for a weekend workshop,
where we'll train each other to repair and use these transmitters! We'll
spend two days with a great engineer, testing and repairing these
machines. Prometheus will provide free, simple food and crash space with
local participants and volunteers, if you bring your expertise or
enthusiasn for learning electronics and community radio!
Where: Join us in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!
When: Saturday and Sunday, May 28th and 29th, 2005!
Cost: We're asking for a donation of $30-$50 for those who can afford it,
and whatever you can pay for those who can't. We never turn anyone away
for lack of funds. Bring your check or cash with you!
For more information, email Christina Dunbar-Hester (at cd92@xxxxxxxxxxx)
today, or call 215-727-9620!
