  Siemens has 1 Gbit/sec wireless link
<http://www.mobiletracker.net/archives/2004/12/07/siemens_has_1_g.php>

Siemens today announced that researchers at the Siemens Communications Group
department have developed wireless technology capabale of speeds up to 1
Gbit/sec (1000 megabits per second). WiFi currently tops out at around 50
megabits per second, which is still quite faster than technologies in the US
like EV-DO that top out at a little over 2 megabits second. Howver, don't
hold out for the new tech anytime soon:

By the time the next generation of mobile communication debuts, which is
expected to occur beginning in the year 2015, the need for transmission
capacities for voice, data, image and multimedia is conservatively
anticipated to rise by a factor of 10.

Siemens combined an "intelligent antenna system" consisting of three
transmitting and four receiving antennas with Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing (OFDM). The research looks promising for "4G" or technology
after W-CDMA (3G).

This technology will be shown off at the 3GSM World Congress in February 2005.
