U. of Colorado at Boulder Adopts Encrypting Links for E-Mail Software

On January 2, 2003 University of Boulder joined the growing ranks of
colleges and universities that have added a layer of encryption for their
e-mail systems. Specifically U. of Boulder has implemented Secure Sockets
Layer as a means of preventing malicious eavesdroppers from extracting
users' e-mail passwords and content. The switch did not require software or
hardware upgrades for the users, merely a change in software settings.
However, adoption was frustrating slow according to Boulder officials, who
began the transition in October 2002.
