Sneaky Toolbar Hijacks Browsers
A program called Xupiter has caused many people problems doing what some
describe as a "drive-by download." The program attaches itself to an user's
Internet browsers, changing the home page to xupiter.com, redirecting all
searches to Xupiter's site, and blocking any attempts to restore the
browsers original settings. The program attempts to download updates each
time an affected computer boots up, and has been blamed for causing system
crashes. Several versions of Xupiter also appear to download other
programs, such as gambling games, which later appear in pop-up windows.
Xupiter offers a download utility, but many have complained that it doesn't
work, or make problems worse. Mike Healan, of SpywareInfo, recommends
Spybot Search & Destroy to eradicate the program.
