Red Hat offers software warranty

Linux distributor Red Hat is promising existing and future customers legal
protection against SCO (Santa Cruz Operation) Group lawsuits via its Open
Source Assurance Program, which will replace any code found to violate
SCO's intellectual property. The SCO Group accuses IBM (International
Business Machines) of using code from its Unix operating system in Linux,
and contends that Linux independently violates Unix copyrights. Novell,
owner of SuSE Linux, and Hewlett Packard offer their customers indemnities
against SCO legal action. The Open Source Development Labs began building a
$10 million legal defense fund. Red Hat also launched a legal defense fund
for open source programmers at the LinuxWorld trade show in August 2003.
