************************************************************** Net Happenings - From Educational CyberPlayGround ************************************************************** The patch that Microsoft hastily created to fix a "zero day" vulnerability can lock up servers, Microsoft said on March 18. So called 'zero day" vulnerabilities, are flaws used in attacks that have not been seen before by security experts, anti-virus companies, or software providers. These type of vulnerabilities are of concern, since they can spread unchecked, until the software maker can create a patch. Microsoft's patch for the Internet Information System 5.0 running on Windows 2000 is incompatible with 12 other software fixes for the operating system. Microsoft suggests that users contact its Product Support Services before applying the patch. http://www.infoworld.com/article/03/03/19/HNwinpatch_1.html ************************************************************** The Net Happenings mailing list is a service of Educational CyberPlayGround - http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/ ************************************************************** If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or would like to sponsor the Net Happenings service - <http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/Community/Subguidelines.html> Subscribe | Unsubscribe | Change Email Preferences - <http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/Community/NetHappenings.html> **************************************************************
