Bagel spreads over holiday weekend
The Bagle worm, first hitting Australia then spreading to Asia and Europe,
is making its way to the Untied States as many companies return from a
three-day weekend. Jack Clark of antivirus firm McAfee believes the release
of Bagle was timed to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the
United States and the New Year in China, when many companies would be
understaffed. Mr. Clark does not agree with analysts who forecast that
Bagle could be the next SoBig. McAfee reports that six major enterprise
customers have been hit by the virus. The spread of Bagle began to slow the
afternoon of January 20, 2004, according to anti-virus firms.
