Greetings from DC.
Two items for you this week.

First, the Computers in Libraries conference begins next week here in
DC. I'll be co-presenting a couple of sessions. Contributing Editor
Steven Cohen will also be on the podium several times. Hope to see you
there.

Second, mobile access to the web continues to grow in North America.
On Monday, Nextaris <http://www.nextaris.com>, a service that allows
users to save and share web content and MUCH more (Chris Sherman calls
it a "web dashboard") launched Nextaris Mobile. Now, whatever web
content you save is available to you via any WAP enabled (wireless
access protocol) mobile web browser. Nextaris and Nextaris Mobile are
worth a look by all web users regardless if you're a mobile web user.
You'll find a link to my Nextaris overview in Monday's "Search
Briefs". Btw, all Nextaris services are available for free.

That's it for this week. Now, let's get to a few of the highlights
from the past week on ResourceShelf.

Academic Libraries

The ACRL Scholarly Communications Toolkit now online: A resource
   for administrators, faculty, and librarians.
"The toolkit is designed with three pathways: one for academic
administrators, one for faculty, and one for librarians. For the
most part, the same issues are addressed in the pathways, but the
emphasis and amount of information that is included changes for the
particular audience. Key issues chosen for inclusion are the effects
of inflationary price increases and relatively stable information
access budgets; new alternatives for disseminating scholarly
information; aggregated or bundled electronic content; author
control of intellectual property; and publisher mergers and
   acquisitions."

information point for the EU. Eventually it is hoped to offer cross
border transactional services. Originally, the portal was due to
become available in 2003 but was delayed after it encountered
difficulties in attempting to integrate information and services
from national administration systems. It is divided into two
sections, one for businesses and one for members of the public. The
"citizens" section holds over 1,300 fact sheets and offers guides to

understanding the generalist searching resources and typical users
and on performing a reflective search through application of search
strategies, controlled vocabulary, and logic appropriate to the
search tool. There is a growing emphasis on Web-based search tools
