"Enjoy the largest children's museum north of Boston, and Maine's premier
center for learning and discovery. Seven permanent interactive exhibits
invite you to explore the worlds of nature, geography, children's
literature, music, art, science and anatomy. It's too much fun for
everyone!"
Nature Trails
Explore Maine's ecosystem along a 20-foot waterway. Send a boat down the
river and create hydropower. For a bird's eye view, climb to the top of a
two story treehouse.
Passport to the World
Travel the globe! Learn to navigate the world in a Mapmobile, then visit
the Australian outback, a marketplace in Ghana, a schoolroom in Peru and
"do lunch" in the World Diner.
Booktown
Walk through a village where every doorway leads you into the pages of a
Maine children's literary classic. Have your pictrue taken atop Wilbur the
pig from Charlotte's Web or be the librarian in Miss Rumphius library.
Sounds Abound
Discover the world of music in a sound studio with karaoke. You can be the
camera operator, conduct an orchestra and learn to identify different
styles of music.
Artscape
Dazzle, create, learn about pattern, color, kinetic and sculpture in our
visual art exhibit space, including an art studio for drop-in activities.
Swing a harmonograph drawing board and watch the patterns appear. No two
designs will be the same.
Mission Discovery
Hands-on exhibits explore leverage, acceleration, robotics, astronomy and
more. Come and sit in a larger than life gyroscope that rotates you at its
center.Body Journey

Shopping holidays
Maine shopping meccas give visitors a chance to pamper themselves

"Downtown Bangor, like so many other downtowns in Maine, has seen its
fortunes change dramatically. At one time it was the center of commerce;
then, one after another, its anchor stores closed. (Bangor shoppers over
40 fondly remember Freese's department store, a four-story building that
carried everything.) Now, the downtown is alive again. The city has wisely
realized the value of the historic buildings still remaining here as well
as its scenic location besides the Kenduskeag and Penobscot rivers."
The Maine Discovery Museum of now was the Freese's Department Store.
Those center city department stores were great and they are often great
venues for cultural institutions like museums.
