"Our Mission

The Family Violence Prevention Fund works to prevent violence within the
home, and in the community, to help those whose lives are devastated by
violence because everyone has the right to live free of violence.

What We Do

For more than two decades, the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) has
worked to end violence against women and children around the world.
Instrumental in developing the landmark Violence Against Women Act passed
by Congress in 1994, the FVPF has continued to break new ground by
reaching new audiences including men and youth, promoting leadership
within communities to ensure that violence prevention efforts become
self-sustaining, and transforming the way health care providers, police,
judges, employers and others address violence."

"The Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) has been an active player in
the national public policy arena since the development of the first
comprehensive national legislation to address issues of violence against
women: The Violence Against Women Act of 1994. Since 1994, the FVPF has
continued to serve as a reliable resource to members of Congress and their
staffs, Congressional Committees, and the Executive Branch. Its presence
in Washington ensures that national policy makers have ready access to the
expertise that the FVPF has developed over the last 20 years with its work
in the areas of child abuse and domestic violence, workplace, health,
public education and immigration.

The FVPF monitors federal legislative activity, provides technical
assistance to congressional offices, and works closely with other national
women's organizations to educate Congress, the Administration and federal
agencies. Our policy activities are a natural extension of our program
activities - and each informs the other. As a result of our activities in
and out of the policy arena we are able to offer more comprehensive
information and technical assistance to both domestic violence programs
and policy makers around the country."
