NEW ROCHELLE, NY3/26/2003--Symbio Technologies debuted its Linux based, thin
client network
solution at the K-12 Technology Showcase held at the Brooklyn Marriott. Dubbed
the Symbiont, the
system promises users a more powerful, secure, and affordable computer
environment. Customers
can use their existing Microsoft and Apple programs and perform all of their
business operations, while
eliminating most of the overhead and security issues associated with a
standard computer network.
End users see familiar programs on an easy-to-use desktop. With applications
loaded on the server
and accessed using simple workstations, customers save on software licensing
and support fees, can
immediately deploy new programs and upgrades to all users simultaneously, and
can reuse old hardware.
Symbio Technologies can set up the network in just a few hours and can install
new workstations at the
rate of one per minute. Thirty older machines can be upgraded into powerful
workstations for the price
of one new standard PC.
The Symbiont workstation is:
· always as powerful as a high end server
· free of any software or operating system that needs to be managed
· less than half the price of an off-the-shelf or mail order computer
· as small as a textbook
· free of any breakable, moving parts
· compatible with portable storage devices
· completely silent
· the most secure computing solution available
and has the lowest total cost of ownership compared to any solution in its
class. Industry experts such
as the Gartner Group estimate that a thin client network can save thousands of
dollars in total cost of ownership (TCO).
?The Symbiont is unique in that, unlike other thin client solutions, it
has no embedded operating
system,? said Symbio-Technologies? president, Roger Del Russo. ?That
translates into secure, incorruptible
workstations that will never become obsolete.?
