New Microsoft flaw exposes servers

Microsoft warns that a flaw in the Windows Locator service in Windows 2000
and NT domain controllers could open a network to attack. Windows Locator
translates the network name of resources (disks, printer, etc.) into their
address on a company's local access network. An attacker can send false
data to the service to crash it or cause a buffer overflow to execute code
of the attacker's choice, controlling the server. Microsoft's advisory
states that a properly configured firewall should prevent network attacks,
though an attack is more likely to come from within the company network.
The article provides a link to the MS advisory, which provides security patches.
