Computer virus author jailed

22-year old Simon Vallor of Llandudno, Wales was sentenced to two years of
prison under Britain's Computer Misuse Act 1990 for programming the Gokar,
Redesi, and Admirer viruses. Prosecutors submitted evidence that these
viruses infected 27,000 computers in 42 countries. The viruses would stop
computers from operating, and destroy files after a reboot. Vallor pleaded
guilty to three offenses under the Computer Misuse Act, and his sentence
accounts for his age, previous good character, and guilty plea. British
police arrested Vallor 14 February 2002, acting on intelligence from the
FBI's Baltimore office.
