Quest Network is thrilled to announce the October 31st, 2005 launch of Blue
Zones=92 LifeQuest Expedition (www.bluezones.com), the latest in a series of
highly interactive, standards-driven, online learning expeditions! Directed
by thousands of 4th-9th grade classrooms, world-renowned explorer, Dan
Buettner will strike off for Okinawa on a three-week expedition to unlock
the secrets of longevity. And thanks to the generous support of our
sponsors, the Blue Zones=92 LifeQuest content and its companion curriculum
guide will be available to educators online at NO COST.
Working with the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and a worldwide team of scientists, we've
found the four small regions of the world where people live the longest,
healthiest lives. Since 70% of how long we live is determined by our
lifestyle, these places offer best practices in longevity. Beginning
October 31st, our three-week Blue Zones=92 LifeQuest Expedition will empower
students to direct a team of experts to Okinawa as they interact with
centenarians and aging experts. Students=92 mission will be to track=
evidence
and articulate the "ingredients" of the "formula for longevity". Additional
Quests will follow in the spring of 2005 and October of 2006 and 2007.
At a time when childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions, Blue
Zones=92 LifeQuest Expedition seeks to educate schoolchildren on key=
behaviors
that contribute to living a long, healthy life and motivate them to adopt
physically active, nutritionally and emotionally sound lifestyles.
Using the highly interactive Blue Zones=92 LifeQuest Website, your students
will have the opportunity to:
=B7 Direct the LifeQuest team of scientists, writers, and educators by
voting on the team=92s route, solving ethical dilemmas and team conflicts,=
and
investigating cultural and scientific findings throughout their journey.
The daily dispatches, interactive features, videos, slideshows, and
curriculum guide will help you meet national standards in Language Arts,
Health, and Science;
=B7 Identify and interview healthy, active seniors in their own
communities using the LifeBridge Survey, developed with help from the
National Institute on Aging, and share that research with aging experts;
=B7 Challenge themselves to make healthier lifestyle choices. The =93=
My
Blue Zones Tracker=94 will engage students to modify four key behaviors that
contribute to obesity in an effort to maximize their own health and
longevity.
