Subject: [WWWEDU] need more telementors

greetings,

about a month ago, i made a request for telementors for my 90 9th graders
here in nyc at information technology hs. i cant say the response was
overwhelming, but there was a response and the young scholars love it, so
do the telementors. i must say it does break my heart when a class comes
in and some still say they dont have a telementor yet. i say i'm trying.

anyone can be a telementor, it is pretty easy. all you do is look at a
scholar's page and all of hir work and then use the email link to discuss
the work with the scholar on an english teacher level, a webdesigner
level, on a concerned citizen level. what i find amazing is how the
scholars respond and find more purpose in their work then it just being
schoolwork. telementoring gives their work relevancy.

so what is a telementor? a telementor is one who is connected to the
internet and decides to spend some time with a young scholar. they can be
preservice teachers, retired teachers, wanna bes, and former students.

let me remind you ot the page for the work of the scholars:

and the protocol you may want to follow:

i'm particularly interested in the pt3 program, though i have been
unsuccessful in contacting anyone involved in it for preservice teachers.
telementoring is ideal for preservice teachers as it provides them access
to scholars practicing webbuilding and will give the preservice teacher an
idea of just how to use the web in their own classroom one day. i'd love
to tap retired teachers as well as they have so much to offer. that of
course doesnt let others not in those groups out, au contraire.

please consider becoming a telementor and pass it on.
