Subject: [WWWEDU] NRC Hosts Workshop on Designing High-Quality Science
Assessments
On May 6-7, the National Research Council will host a two-day workshop in
Washington, D.C. on the design of K-12 science assessment systems. During the
workshop, models of high-quality science assessment systems will be presented,
and attendees will be asked to provide comment and offer suggestions on how to
improve the assessment designs. The National Academy of Sciences' Committee on
Test Design for K-12 Science Achievement will then use the suggestions and
revised designs in shaping its guidance and in the recommendations it plans to
make in a final report to states.
(States must begin mandatory science assessments under No Child Left Behind
in 2007-08.) The workshop is open to the public, but space is limited, and
registration will be on a first come, first served basis. For a copy of the
agenda, e-mail jpeterson@xxxxxxxxx If you wish to attend the workshop please
respond by e-mail to Teresia Wilmore (twilmore@xxxxxxx), by Friday, April 30.
For more information on the project, and for drafts of the design teams' work
and
other relevant papers (available on April 28, 2004) go to
