Subject: [WWWEDU] GLOBAL LEARN DAY - Voyage 7 - Sat 15/Sun16/Mon17 November 2003

Hi everyone.

Global Learn Day is coming up - billed as the largest education conference
in the world and with audio from a 24 hour panorama of people with a
passion for education and communication.

Go here to see the draft and incomplete but rapidly filling program:
http://www.talkingcommunities.com/tc/gld7/speakers.htm

You may be interested to read/hear perspectives on education and
technology from other parts of the world, especially the cross to Dr Louise
Crossley on Macquarie Island, in the sub-Antarctic.

About the organiser:

Quote from a recent personal e-mail in which John explained Global Learn Day:

"My dream, and it is only a dream, is we can make this the Earth Day of
Education and truly celebrate LEARNING. My Impossible Dream is to make
it as compelling  and well known as the Academy Awards and the Oscars...with
the marriage of television and radio that is possible"

Excuse me if I am very excited about this but I am proud to say I'm one
of the presenters for Australia.  The theme of my timeslot is "Lifelong
Skills and Values from E-Learning."

I have also been involved in setting up the cross to Dr Louise Crossley
at Macquarie Island who is speaking on behalf of the continent of
Antarctica. http://users.voice-alert.com/gld7/7141.html

Tell your students if they have any questions on penguins to tune in and
chat to Louise on Sunday!

I really want to say to you that one door opens another in this game.

It was Yvonne Marie Andres, one of the organisers of the DOORS TO DIPLOMACY
contest (which Ogilvie High School students worked so hard on last year and
earlier this
year) who wrote to let us know via the WWWEDU list about this wonderful
opportunity and I want to publicly thank her and thank you Andy for your
vision in establishing this community.

As you know, this world celebration rolls around the world starting at
University of South Pacific in Fiji and ending at University of Hawaii.

I want to ask any of you involved to please post the URLs to your Speaker
Profiles as the Talking Communities schedule which will eventually have all the
links
is very out of date at the moment and I'd like to read up on everyone
participating before the weekend.

Yvonne, Bonnie Bracey I know you are involved but please could others
involved write and tell us clearly what you are doing and when you are
speaking and don't forget the URLs to your speaker profiles.

Many thanks.

Check the website for more details:

Kind regards,
Roslyn Teirney.
