Subject: [WWWEDU] "Avoiding Armageddon" forum topic
The current conflict in the Middle East is just one instance of where
the possible threat of use of "weapons of mass destruction" exists. An
upcoming PBS series, designed to help understand these issues is the
focus of an upcoming Social Studies forum.
"Avoiding Armageddon", the upcoming PBS series that examines the threats
posed by nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, and brings viewers
face-to-face with the people racing to use them, will be the topic of
the April 9 Social Studies forum in the NEW TAPPED IN. Forum time is 8
p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific). Web address for the forum is
http://www.tappedin.org/new.
Many listmembers may note that a redesign of the TAPPED IN interface is
currently in testing, and this will be the first Social Studies forum in
the new location. As always, forum participants can become members of
the TAPPED IN community, or can log in as guests. (NOTE: If you are a
TAPPED IN member, your current user name and password will NOT work in
the new interface. You will need to create a new user name and
password.)
Joining me for this session will be Anne Harrington of WETA, who will
discuss the series, as well as the accompanying web site, which will
include downloadable lesson plans as well as other interactive
activities to help students understand these complex issues. The
companion web site for "Avoiding Armageddon" is at
http://www.pbs.org/avoidingarmageddon/. (Note: the site is set to
launch on April 8, 2003.)
As always, TAPPED IN help desk personnel will be on hand to assist new
users. It's suggested that new users log in approximately 10 minutes
prior to the start of the session to get to the forum location.
Persons with questions or wanting more information are encouraged to
e-mail Michael Hutchison off list.
Sincerely,
Michael Hutchison
