* Library of Congress Learning Page Chat ? Civil Rights
5:00pm PST
One hundred years after the Civil War, America witnessed marches,
sit-ins, boycotts, freedom rides, nonviolent resistance, and rallies.
The nation's attention was focused on the inequities of racial
segregation and discrimination against African Americans. Landmark
actions - the Brown decision of 1954, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the
Voting Rights Act of 1965 - resulted. What changes can we attribute to
this era of activism? Has America achieved equal rights for all its
citizens? Where are we today, and where do we go from here? Join this
LOC discussion in the ASO.
