Subject: NASAexplores Content Alert

This week on NASAexplores we're featuring the articles, "Show And
Tell," on the StevenF.Udvar-HazyCenter, and "The Air Up There,"
on how astronauts breathe in space. Below are abstracts of the
articles, as well as brief descriptions of the accompanying
lessons for each grade level.

To access the articles and lessons, please visit the NASAexplores
web site: http://www.nasaexplores.com.

Topic 1: Show And Tell

Over 200 aircraft and 135 spacecraft are slated for display at
the new Udvar-HazyCenter. This is the
Smithsonian Institution's National Air and SpaceMuseum's new
facility in Washington, DC. Many of the craft in the museum's
display are direct results of NASA's aerospace technology.

K-4
Lesson 1 - Color These Milestones Of Flight: To learn about
NASA's contribution to aeronautics history.

Lesson 2 - My OwnMuseum: To research aviation pioneers and
aircraft.

5-8
Lesson 1 - Take An Online Trip To The Udvar-Hazy Center: To
learn about some of the aircraft on display at the Stephen F.
Udvar-Hazy Center through an Internet exercise.

Lesson 2 - The Museum Of Me: To discuss the role of a museum,
and to brainstorm a list of items that would be in a museum
exhibit about oneself.

9-12
Lesson 1 - Layered Floor Plan: To construct a three-dimensional
floor plan of the Smithsonian's StevenF.Udvar-HazyCenter.

Lesson 2 - Museums Of Observations: To explore the importance of
museums through observational skills.

Topic 2: The Air Up There

If there's no air in space, how do astronauts breathe on the
Space Station? It starts with air brought up from Earth, but
requires a complex system to keep the Station's atmosphere fresh.

K-4
Lesson 1 - A Mini Earth: To examine the effect that light and
air has on green plants.

Lesson 2 - I Live In An Ecosystem: To learn about ecosystems.

5-8
Lesson 1 - Room To Grow: To learn how different degrees of
competition among plants affects their growth and survival.

Lesson 2 - Inhale And Exhale: To create pie graphs to represent
the gas percentages found in air that is inhaled and exhaled.

9-12
Lesson 1 - Predicting Weather With Pressure: To use atmospheric
pressure to forecast the weather.

Lesson 2 - The Flow (chart) Of Water: To compare and contrast
the hydrologic cycle on Earth and on the International Space
Station (ISS).
