Subject: [NASA Quest Discuss] International Astronomy Day!
Hello Everyone!
Trust everyone is keeping well. It's International Astronomy Day today
(Saturday) and it stopped raining only a few minutes ago. So, it's still
pretty cloudy outside. Hopefully, it'll clear up soon to get the telescope
out. The Eta Aquarids meteor shower is on these days and it's expected to
peak on May 3. Also, there will be a total eclipse of the Moon on Tuesday,
May 4, that will last for about 38 minutes. Should be interesting!
Don't forget that Space Day is just round the corner! Space Day this year
is on Thursday, 6th May. I got a local school involved in the Student
Signatures in Space (S3) Program this year (only the 2nd school from Sri
Lanka in the history of the S3 program), and am eagerly awaiting the
arrival of the S3 Participant Package. I have been tracking it online for
the last 4 days as it made it's way across the U.S. and presently it's in
Singapore. It should be on a flight to Sri Lanka later tonight and
hopefully, will arrive at our doorstep sometime tomorrow. Fingers crossed! :-)
A webcast of the Space Day national event is being held at the Udvar-Hazy
Center on Thursday, May 6, 2004. It will be available to view free of
charge, and is being provided by Kidz Online. The sponsor for Kidz Online
is Nortel Networks. On May 6, the opening ceremony will be available LIVE
by going to www.kidzonline.org/spaceday, from 9:30 am 10:30 am EDT. By
May 7th, the Web site will be expanded to include scenes from the 36
hands-on activity stations made available to over 1,300 visiting sixth
grade students; interviews with Space Day teen spokespeople; and interviews
with members of the Stellar Teams, the winners of the Design Challenges.
The Webcast will continue to be available at the kidzonline.org website for
up to one year.
Have a great weekend!
