Greetings from rain-soaked, cold and windy New Jersey!

If you subscribe to eSchoolNews you've probably already heard about this. It's
the announcement of an awesome, *FREE* program/resource portal used for online
collaboration and instruction. If you are familiar with weblogs and WebCT, this
has elements of both (and more). For anyone looking to do more with online
collaborative tools - with little or no district budget - it's definitely worth
a look.

Here is the teaser from the eSchoolNews mailing:

"Computer buffs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have
constructed a new portal framework designed to give educational
institutions more flexibility in managing both on-campus and distance
education programs. Called Caddie.net, the framework--which schools can
download free of charge--supplies basic applications for course management
and scheduling, while enabling users to build customized portals designed
to meet the specific needs of a particular class or campus organization."

Note that as of this writing, the software in in Beta, so expect a few bumps
along the way to the first official version.

Also, don't bother going to www.caddie.net - the domain is apparently
owned by a French firm. A babelfish translation indicates it's basically a
temporary "this site is coming soon" type of page.

Best,
