community

Greetings,
Using Blackboard and pocket-size digital voice recorders we are working on
a project to have students publish their original poetry on the Web.
Visitors to the site will be able to hear the poets read their work. The
result will be a kind of virtual Open Mic or Poetry Slam.
I am curious to learn about any other K-12 projects that follow a similar
model, and/or educators that are using digital voice recorders with
students.
We will soon begin another project with a social studies theme. Students
will use the same technology to conduct oral history interviews, and then
publish their work on the Web. Again, visitors to the site will be able to
listen to sound files.
If you know of any schools who are doing something like this, please let me
know, or put them in touch with me. I would like to share ideas,
techniques, and information.
Also, we are looking for a few schools in diverse geographic locations to
join our poetry project. We would like to connect students globally so they
may share and review each other's work. There are no charges. We are not
selling anything!
We will provide the participating teacher with a free Blackboard account,
so their students may use The Poetry Project site, and upload their text
and sound files. The teacher will have to provide their own computer
microphone or digital voice recorder to have their students make the poetry
recordings. These are relatively inexpensive tools.
Thanks for listening!
Anton
