Student Book Club

You are Invited to Join Us for the Kids Who Read Telecollaborative Project!

We hope you and your students will participate in the Kids Who Read
interactive literacy project. There are no fees involved to participate, and
it is a great opportunity for all children to read and write together.

Co-nect's fall online literacy event The Kids Who Read project provides an
opportunity for kids to view themselves as insiders among a fellowship of
readers and writers. The goal of the Kids Who Read project is to get
students excited about reading and writing. During Kids Who Read students
from around the world will have the opportunity to communicate online with
participating authors who write books for children and young adults.

Downloadable curriculum will be available from our website, including both
reading and writing projects that teachers can incorporate into their
classrooms at any time as well as lesson plans directly related to the
authors and their selected books.

This annual Co-nect event has proven to be an exciting, enriching experience
for students worldwide. This fall, the project will highlight National Book
Award Finalist Gary Soto, author of Baseball in April; Sharon Flake, author
of The Skin I'm In; Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard, author of Virgie Goes to
School with Us Boys, RITA award winner Lurlene McDaniel, author of Garden of
Apples; Robert Munsch, author of LoveYou Forever; and Frank Asch, author of
Moonbear. The authors have published several other titles that can be seen
on the Kids Who Read web site as well.

Log on to the web site at kwr.co-nect.net to get the latest author updates
and to register to join the project. Students can go online and submit their
opinions on the greatest book of all time. They will also be able to read
about the selected authors and their work. During this week-- November
17-21--- the authors will be online to answer students' questions about
their writing.

Kids Who Read also supports President Bush's Reading First agenda by
providing an authentic purpose for reading, discussing, questioning, and
writing.

For more information, e-mail kwr@xxxxxxxxxxxx You can sign up by visiting
the program Web site at kwr.co-nect.net.

Best regards,

Mercedes
