___________

I am looking for educational materials that present the basics of soil
and plant 'science', and organic agriculture ( with a definite bias toward
'sustainability ' ) to be used in elementary ( K - 8 ) schools in rural
Haiti and the Dominican Republic.I am coordinating this project, which
initially focused on training Haitian farmers in the basics of organic,
regenerative agriculture, and we are now ready to 'expand' the teaching into
each site's primary school. There are 2 trained Haitian agronomists working
among 4 communities; they are preparing these school programs so to
complement their work with the children's parents in the gardens and fields
of each location. There is also a small project in the DR where we are
helping establish an organic agriculture cooperative and community training
center in a refugee (internal) community near the city of La Vega .The 2
Haitian agronomists can also read and adapt material written in Spanish.
Ideally I would be looking for materials in French and/or Spanish, but
English to be translated will also work.

This project began in 2000 with 2 Haitian and 1 Dominican agronomist.
Originally the head of the Asociacion Dominicana de Agricultura Organica was
the 'trainer', but now due to politics and economics , 'staff ' are all
-Haitian (minus me). I am a public health RN based in Vermont; the funding
we receive supports the 2 agronomists and 3 local farmers who maintain the
project at each location, buys seed and tools and pays for community
seminars.

I can be reached at either 802-348-6648 ,
junellen@xxxxxxxxx, or
343 Dover Road /
S. Newfane,
VT 05351

(I am in Haiti / DR in April and July 2004 )

Thanks.
