Hi, everyone,
I'm posting this in behalf of Leni Donlan:
One hundred years after the Civil War, America witnessed marches, sit-ins,
boycotts, freedom rides, nonviolent resistance, and rallies.
The nation's attention was focused on the inequities of racial segregation
and discrimination against African Americans. Landmark actions - the Brown
decision of 1954, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of
1965 - resulted. What changes can we attribute to this era of activism? Has
America achieved equal rights for all its citizens? Where are we today, and
where do we go from here?
On Thursday, Feb. 19, at 8:00 P.M. (EST), join Library of Congress staff
members and your peers for the Learning Page chat on Civil Rights. The chat
is conducted on the Tapped In Web site in the After School Online Classroom:
http://www.tappedin.org
Joining us is special guest Kahlil Chism, Educational Specialist from the
National Archives and Records Administration. Kahlil lends his teacher's
perspective and history/social studies expertise to research, publishing and
creation of online activities for the National Archives. He will be sharing
primary source documents from the civil rights era, as well as lessons and
teaching activities online from the National Archives Digital Classroom:
http://www.archives.gov/digital_
Don't miss this opportunity to learn of primary source materials from both
the Library of Congress and the National Archives!
